Sony’s far from tired of them, apparently. With the mighty MAG only weeks old, the manufacturer’s unveiled another squaddy romp – SOCOM 4: US Navy Seals. Tap that trailer above, and keep your eyes peeled for release dates.

Somebody’s snuck a new Heavy Rain trailer out of Japan. To our eyes (and we’ve played through a preview build, you know) it seems to be mostly already-known stuff with a sprinkling of fresh.

The old material includes Madison Paige’s striptease for the club boss, Scott Shelby interviewing a lady of negotiable affection, Ethan Mars bonding with/losing track of his son Sean and Norman Jayden picking over a watery murder scene.

Sony Europe’s new video rental and download service is yours for the plundering on PlayStation Network this side of the Atlantic. Fancy catching up with X-men Origins: Wolverine on your PSP? Jump in. Oh wait, that’s the other one.

You’ll find the new features under “Video Store” on the PS Store. There are reportedly over 2,000 flicks on offer, with rentals priced from €1.99 (good for a fortnight, or for 48 hours after beginning playback) and full purchases from €7.99. Launch titles include Pirates of the Caribbean 3, Valkyrie, Bruno, Dead Space: Downfall and the new Star Trek film.

Naturally, SCEE is celebrating the service’s first birthday with a promotion or two. Already got a PSN account? You can pick up The Da Vinci Code for free if you buy Angels and Demons. LONDON – 19th November 2009: Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) further expanded its PlayStation® entertainment experience today with the launch of the PlayStation®Network video delivery service for Europe. Now available in France, Germany, Spain and the UK, with other countries to follow in 2010, the service allows film fans to download hundreds of movies, including the latest releases, straight to their PlayStation®3 (PS3™) and PSP™ (PlayStation®Portable).

More than 2,000 movies are available across the stores to rent (from €1.99) or to buy (from €7.99), many in High Definition* (HD) as well as Standard Definition (SD), from major movie studios including 20th Century Fox, The Walt Disney Company1, Lionsgate2, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM)2, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Starz Media2, Universal, and Warner Bros. The service also provides a broad selection of content from local market studios including ContentFilm International, E1 Entertainment UK and Optimum Releasing (UK), and Constantin Film, Kinowelt and Universum Film (Germany), MK2, EuropaCorp, Pathé, SND and Wild Side Video (France) and Vértice Cine (Spain).

Anyone who registers for a PlayStation®Network account using their new PS3s between 19th & 30th November 2009 will receive a voucher to download a complimentary copy of Transformers to own3.

Located on the PlayStation®Store under the “Video Store” section, the PlayStation Network video delivery service provides consumers with an exceptional entertainment experience, adding HD and SD movies for rental or purchase, to the already comprehensive line-up of games, demos, trailers and other content.

The video delivery service will be fully integrated within the PlayStation Network, using the same log-in, wallet system and user-interface. Visitors can search for movies by name, or can browse categories such as “new releases”, “genres” and ”most popular downloads”. PS3’s progressive downloading allows viewers to start watching a film shortly after the download begins. They can also access certain games or other content on their PS3 while the download is taking place.

Consumers who choose to rent have up to 14 days to watch their movie, and, once playback is started, they have 48 hours to watch the content. Purchased movies are stored on the PS3 hard disk drive and can be accessed at home via PS3 or transferred to PSP for content on the go.

Has Modern Warfare 2 had the most SHOCK and SCANDAL-ridden development period EVAH? Of course not. That honor can be accorded to one game and one game only – the unforgettable Pac-Man World (Three dimensions? Back-story?! A pet dog?!!).

Still, Infinity Ward’s magnum-opus-till-the-next-one has stirred up a fair bit of fuss between unveiling and release. Let’s review the key dates and events with the aid of a few choice video clips…

What’s the coolest thing you can imagine? Nah, this is better. In another bid to justify the PlayStation 3’s (still sizeable) price tag, Sony’s taken to catapulting them into passing Bravia TVs at 80 kilometres an hour.

Hopefully the other system manufacturers will respond in kind. Microsoft were not available for comment at the time of writing, but we reckon that power brick would slow the Xbox 360 down some. The Wii could probably pip PS3 for speed, being smaller and lighter, but would lack penetration power.

Also, you can’t fire a Wii at a Bravia because they’re not HD-capable. Logic, people, logic.

I’ve tried creating an Uncharted 2 machinima. The results were (to me at least) highly amusing. I’ll try again when they unlock my PSN account. In the meantime, why not run your eyes over the following threesome.
